No issue is more important than abortion. Mother Teresa warned, "Abortion represents the greatest threat to civilization. A society that permits abortion is teaching its people to get what they want by violence." There have been tens of millions of legal abortions in America since the Roe vs. Wade decision. Abortion is murder.
Abortion is not a new problem. Since its beginnings, Christianity condemned abortion in the Roman empire. The earliest known manual of Christian discipline, the Didache, which is from the second century, states: "You shall not kill an unborn child or murder a newborn infant."
Most Americans are in favor of allowing abortion up until a certain time. Truth, however, cannot be determined democratically. Some argue that a fetus is not human at two months and twenty-nine days, but it is human at three months. Others argue that since a fetus could not survive on its own, a woman is not compelled to keep it. Another objection is in the case of rape or incest. The vast majority of abortions, though, are done for convenience. A child conceived in violence or sin, however, is innocent and not less precious.
It is paradoxal that rarely is the death penalty suggested for the rapist. Yet the innocent unborn child is killed.
