Moshe Katsav Case
Moshe Katsav are the latest, and most serious, in a string of scandals to embroil the nation's politicians, signalling the erosion of honest government to some, proof of a thriving democracy to others. "Today, more and more, civil servants have the notion that anything can be done as along as you're not caught," says Sullam Eli, director general of the Movement for Quality Government in Israel. "In Hebrew, we don't have any word for accountability and there is a reason for that," he says.But others counter that the fact that the head of state could be charged with serious offences -- the attorney general must now decide whether to follow police recommendations that Katsav be indicted on charges including rape -- proves that no official is above the law. "It's not a sign of corruption, it's a sign of health," says Israeli literary giant Amos Oz, shortlisted for the 2006 Nobel Prize in Literature. "I think it's very healthy that a society can persecute its own president. It would never have happened in Sweden, for example, where the king is immune to any legal procedures. No one is above the law in Israel."
An exhaustive list of recent corruption cases in Israel would run for pages -- the Movement for Quality Government says that more than 15% of Israel's 120-member legislature is under investigation for corruption charges. Israel's new Ashkenazi chief rabbi case
JERUSALEM -- Israel's new Ashkenazi chief rabbi is facing growing calls to step down amid allegations of misconduct. The allegations center on sexual harassment charges against Yona Metzger, as well as charges that he engaged in fraud and is not qualified for the post. Aides to Metzger have rejected the allegations as a smear campaign fueled by political rivals. Metzger and his Sephardi counterpart, Rabbi Shlomo Amar, were elected as Israel's chief rabbis April 14 by a 150-member public committee. Since then, however, opposition to Metzger has grown. In the latest development, a Tel Aviv accountant filed a petition Monday in the High Court of Justice challenging Metzger's appointment. It will be heard by a three-judge panel. The petition claims that allegations of fraud and other improprieties involving Metzger were not fully investigated because of his 1998 pledge not to stand for chief rabbi of Tel Aviv. Metzger's spokesman, Roni Rimon, told the Israeli daily Ma'ariv that the petition was full of "lies, lies and more lies" produced by "professional slanderers.". Metzger had been accused of forging witnesses' signatures on marriage contracts and unlawfully demanding payment for performing weddings, the daily Ha'aretz reported. As a result of the allegations, Metzger's permit to serve as a chief rabbi of a major city was revoked. However, it was reinstated several months later after a hearing before three senior Israeli rabbis -- including Eliyahu Bakshi-Doron, a former Sephardi chief rabbi -- who accepted Metzger's explanations and his commitment to leave the Tel Aviv race, the paper said. The petition also argues that the Metzger, 50, who previously was rabbi of north Tel Aviv, was not qualified to fill the chief rabbi's duties as head of the country's rabbinic court system because he never had been a religious judge or rabbi of a major city. The petition maintained that the elections committee for the chief rabbi was not adequately informed of the misconduct allegations against Metzger. In related development, Ma'ariv recently published what it said were sexual harassment allegations involving Metzger. Three weeks before Metzger's election as chief rabbi, the paper reported, it learned of complaints from four adult men who claimed Metzger had touched their arms, legs and chests and expressed admiration for their muscular physiques.

But their courtship crumbled when she suspected him of having another girlfriend, and he’s since become vindictive. She even caught him on audio tape threatening to prance around their Bronx home naked in front of her 17-year-old daughter. “You’ve got to move,” Goor says, according to an audio tape reviewed by The Post. “This is my house . . . I’m allowed to walk around nude in my house. So you better tell [her daughter] Mary,” Goor told Pizzo. “I’m allowed to walk round this house . . . and I’m going to.”. How, exactly, has it come about that certain Jews are immune from the law? A recent news article reports that former rabbi Edward Schlaeger was found with two compact discs loaded with child pronography. Child porn laws are one of the few remaining morality laws that are enforced in this country. Can you imagine any Gentile getting found with two CDs of kiddie porn and not going to prison? Does anyone seriously think that if this character were a Christian minister or a Catholic priest (especially the latter) he wouldn’t have been crucified in the media on prime time?
And whatever happened to that rabbi who was successfully entrapped by “To Catch A Predator” on television, coming into a house expecting to have sex with a child? That case seems to have dropped right out off the radar.
Another article reports “The most ‘far-flung and exotic fugitive investigation ever conducted by the U.S. Marshals Service’ ended early Sunday with convicted child molester Alan Horowitz in custody on U.S. soil. Alan Horowitz was convicted in 1991 on 34 counts of child molestation. Officers from the U.S. Marshals service arrested the 60-year-old at Newark Liberty International Airport after a 15-hour flight from New Delhi, India. The ordained Orthodox rabbi and former child psychologist was arrested on May 22 at a seaside resort… He is being held at a correctional facility in New Jersey and will appear before an extradition judge on July 16th before being taken to New York to face a parole violation charge there. He also faces a federal charge of unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.”
And yet another article reports: “December 7, 2006 – Rabbi Yehuda Kolko was arrested in New York City following a long-term investigation, police said.He was charged with four counts of sexual abuse, including two felony counts, and endangering the welfare of a child. The alleged victim was in the first grade during the 2002-03 school year."
May 5, 2006 Rabbi –Yudi Kolko and Yeshiva Torah Temimah were hit with a $20 million civil lawsuit accusing him of molesting two students more than 25 years ago.One of the alleged victims said Rabbi Yehuda Kolko, 60, sexually assaulted him when he was a seventh-grade student.
September 12, 2007 — Rabbi Yehuda Kolko was re-arrested on new charges for allegedly molesting another boy at at Yeshiva Torah Temimah. Rabbi Kolko’s wife was able to raise the bail to $50,000 bond, $25,000 cash within the hour and he was released in time to pray at evening Rosh Hashanah services.
April 2, 2008 – Another civil suit is filed against Rabbi Yehuda Kolko and Yeshiva Torah Temimah. The latest case involves the alleged sexual abuse of a minor, identified as John Doe No. 6, was enrolled at the school when they were between the ages of 11 and 13.”

Suit claims rabbi molested male students

NEW YORK, May 6 (UPI) -- A New York rabbi and his religious school are being sued by two men who claim they were sexually abused as children more than a quarter-century ago.
One man, identified as John Doe No. 1, says Rabbi Yehuda Kolko, 60, molested him when he was in the seventh-grade at Yeshiva-Mesivta Torah Temimah in Brooklyn in the 1970s, the Daily News reported. The man, now 48, said at a news conference that Kolko had him sit on his lap while the rabbi was driving him to school and also abused him at a summer camp. The second man says he was molested 10 years later when he was a seventh grader. Jeffrey Herman, a Miami lawyer representing John Doe No. 1, accuses the school of protecting the rabbi by intimidating boys who had been abused. Rabbi in sex suit: Ex-students seek $20M

A Brooklyn rabbi and his yeshiva were hit with a $20 million civil lawsuit yesterday, accusing him of molesting two students more than 25 years ago.
One of the alleged victims said Rabbi Yehuda Kolko, 60, sexually assaulted him when he was a seventh-grade student attending Yeshiva-Mesivta Torah Temimah, an Ocean Parkway, Brooklyn, religious school. "It happened in his car on the way to school and at recess during summer camp," the 48-year-old man said at a press conference. The plaintiff, identified by his Miami lawyer, Jeffrey Herman, only as John Doe No. 1, was allegedly molested during the early 1970s over a two-year period, Herman said. The alleged victim charges that Kolko had instructed him to sit on his lap and hold the steering wheel while they were in Kolko's car on the way to school as the rabbi molested him. Herman, who claims there are at least 15 victims, charges that school officials waged a campaign of intimidation and concealment against victims and their families to bury the accusations against the rabbi. School officials could not be reached for comment. kolko, who lives in Midwood in a red-brick house on E. 22nd St., could not be reached for comment. The other plaintiff, who was not present, was identified as a 38-year-old man who was allegedly sexually abused when he was also a seventh-grader in the 1980s.

SYDNEY, Australia (JTA) – A sex scandal at a fervently Orthodox Jewish school in Melbourne has sparked a furious debate in Australia’s Jewish community.

Malka Leifer, the Israeli-born principal of the fervently Orthodox Adass Israel Girls’ School, was accused on the front page of last week’s Australian Jewish News of sexual abuse , setting off a media storm in Australia.
The story also sparked a blistering war of words within the Jewish community about whether the newspaper should have aired the community’s dirty laundry in public.
Under the headline “Adass principal flees Australia in disgrace,” the newspaper reported last week that Leifer fled the country on March 5 – 24 hours after the school board confronted her with allegations of sexual misconduct involving former students.
Leifer denied the allegations, according to the president of the Adass Israel synagogue, Binyomin Koppel. In a statement, Koppel confirmed that Leifer, the principal for five years, was “suspended from all school duties” and had left the country on the evening of March 5.
A mother of eight in her late 40s, Leifer is believed to have gone to her parents’ home in the fervently Orthodox enclave of Bnei Brak, a Tel Aviv suburb.
At least three alleged victims, recent graduates who became teachers at the school, are believed to have come forward to counselors with allegations of misconduct by Leifer.
There are about 1,200 members of the Adass Israel community, an insular community of fervently Orthodox Jews, many of whose primarly language is Yiddish. In the wake of the scandal, Adass Israel has hired psychologists to counsel the school’s 250 students as well as staff, teachers and former students. Meanwhile, a furious debate has raged over whether the newspaper should have reported the salacious story.
One letter-writer whose missive was published in this week’s edition of the Australian Jewish News called for a boycott of the newspaper for the “shame and humiliation rendered on Melbourne Jewry.” A second accused the weekly of “tabloid-like behavior” that was “disgraceful and outrageous.”
The editor, another wrote, should be “reprimanded by the owners” for “transgressing the laws of lashon hara” – the ban on gossip.
Letter writers also came to the paper’s defense. One said the paper did its job “with sensitivity and compassion,” and that it had an “obligation” to publish the allegations because “our children need to be protected.”. In a strongly worded editorial, the newspaper argued that it was “nonsense” to suggest that it should have refrained from publishing the news. “That there could be an alleged sexual predator in one of our schools will not make our friends think any worse of us, nor will it breed a new generation of anti-Semites,” the editorial argued. “It simply proves again that our community, like any, has its flaws.”
The fury surrounding publication of the story recalled a similar controversy several years ago in the United States, when The New York Jewish Week published allegations of sexual abuse by Baruch Lanner, a rabbi who worked in the Orthodox Union’s youth movement. Lanner was later convicted of sexual abuse and sentenced to seven years in prison.
In Australia, the story about Adass Israel spread quickly on the internet, on radio talk shows and in the Australian press, which ran with headlines like “Principal ‘molested schoolgirls,’ ” and “Fury over girls school sex claims.”. The Adass community has been traumatized by the scandal. “The mere allegation has gone to the very core of the Torah principles, ethos and practices of that whole community,” said Norman Rosenbaum, an attorney for the school and brother of Yankel Rosenbaum, the yeshiva student who was murdered during New York’s 1991 Crown Heights riots. “It is devastating. This has shattered people.”. A source close to the school said Leifer’s actions were a “betrayal of trust.”. “I think she was very smart and waited for them to leave school,” the source said of the girls Leifer allegedly abused. “It was an abuse of power. A lot of the Adass students become teachers, and she became their boss.”
“Everyone is very, very upset. They are shocked and devastated that this could occur,” said one non-Orthodox teacher at the school. “A lot of people are finding it hard to believe.”. The teacher said she did not think the girls who had come forward with the allegations would go to the police. A police spokesperson said authorities were aware of the allegations but would neither confirm nor deny whether any girls had reported claims against Leifer or whether an investigation was under way.
The sex and abuse scandal that has laid waste to the reputation of a prominent Bergen County rabbi has now claimed the career of the chief executive of the largest Orthodox Jewish organization in the world.
Rabbi Raphael Butler of Queens resigned Friday as executive vice president of the Manhattan-based Orthodox Union, less than a month after a special investigative commission found that inaction at the top of the organization allowed decades of abuse by Rabbi Baruch Lanner of Fair Lawn to continue unchecked. The resignation took effect immediately, and there was no attempt to sugarcoat it as the Orthodox Union made it clear that Butler quit because he was one of the leaders who knew about Lanner's activities long before they were made public. Lanner was found to have abused -- sexually, physically and emotionally -- teenagers entrusted to his care while he ran the New Jersey region of the National Conference of Synagogue Youth, the Orthodox Union's youth organization, and worked at two New Jersey yeshivas, both of them high schools. There were so many things to comment on I gave up after awhile. My dear I will find one thing for you so you understand why Jews are so big in the porn business. FIRST. They are known for rotting societies from the inside out. This means they come across a strong new country or culture that still has integrity and manliness and feminity. Well cannot have that. Some site called PYRAMID had used my version from their link on EBAY as part of a reference library. I am betting it was lost through their exposure. WOW.
