An entire Israeli nation held its breath as the Tel Aviv District Court convened on Thursday morning to hand down the conviction of former president Moshe Katzav, who was found guilty of committing rape and other sexual offenses against female employees who were subordinate to him during his tenure as tourism minister in the late 1990s and later as president of the country.

Katzav, Israel's eighth president, is the first president in the country's history to be convicted of rape.

Judge George Karra, who presided over the panel of three judges, read aloud the conviction. Katzav was charged with two counts of raping "Aleph," a former Tourism Ministry employee, in 1998. " Aleph is honest and spoke the truth, while Katzav's testimony was riddled with lies," the judges concluded.

The former president was also convicted of a host of severe sexual abuse charges involving other women who have worked with him, including multiple counts of sexual assault, sexual harassment and obstruction of justice.

The former president's trial began in March 2009 behind closed doors. But it was only after the state prosecution and Katzav's defense lawyers delivered their closing statements five months ago that the judges began to examine the plaintiffs' testimonies and the evidence presented by police.

Drama ensued the reading of the historic verdict. Representatives of women's organizations, who demonstrated in front of the court in a show of solidarity with Katzav's victims, burst into cries of joy as the judges announced that Katzav is guilty of rape.

"It's a very important day and a very strong symbol in the struggle that we've been leading in the past four-and-a-half years, " said a women's rights activist. "The prosecution, together with the defense attorneys, tried to reach a plea bargain which we completely objected to."

She said the feeling among the gamut of Israeli women's rights groups was that the case had to be heard in court. "We feel satisfied today that the court actually did justice with all of these women who were severely abused by Katzav," she added.

Inside, Boaz Katzav, the former president's son, shouted at the judges "It's not true!" as his father turned to his lawyers with a shocked look.

"It's a hard moment for our family," Boaz told the dozens of reporters who crowded the vicinity. "We'll continue to be proud of our father, the entire Israeli nation will know that this trial was immoral, solely based on the judges' feelings." he said.

Ronit Amiel, who led the prosecution, issued a restrained statement, saying the verdict is a "testament to the prowess and a medal of merit to Israeli democracy, that even worldly men, presidents, will be brought to trial in case the criminal enquiry requires so to do."

In regard to the most severe charge, the judges argued that in the course of the trial they received new evidence which supported "Aleph's" testimony of having been raped on two occasions over a decade ago, while discrediting Katzav's claims that Aleph willingly consented to a sexual relationship and had sought revenge after he had fired her.

The judges criticized the evidence presented by Katzav in the form of a "love letter" he allegedly received from "Aleph" and the recording of a telephone conversation in which she expressed her affection for him. They also discredited the authenticity of love letters sent by other women, saying the women were forced to write them.

Israel's political establishment said the verdict represented a sad day for the country. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the court "conveyed two clear-cut messages, that all are equal before the law and that every woman has exclusive rights to her body."

Opposition leader Tzipi Livni of the Kadima Party echoed Netanyahu, saying that the ruling embodied a message to victims.

"The court's decision conveys a clear message with regard to public officials, but more importantly, a message to the victims. It's the responsibility of society to support those who mustered the courage to come out after all these years," Livni said.

"In these difficult times for Israeli society, the message should strengthen the weak in society, namely women and anyone who's victimized," she added.

Katzav now awaits sentencing, which would seal his trial. Recent changes in the criminal code for the offense of rape state a penalty of between four and 16 years' imprisonment. Since the offenses took place prior to the changes, Katzav may be handed a shorter term."

One grows weary of pointing to the disparity between how "Holocaust" revisionists and Muslim haters are treated in the media and the courts both legal and of public opinion.

And when  Muslims responded that the book was offensive and replete with lies and insults,  Muslims' reaction were was disregarded as the book was nothing but fiction, criticized and demonized though as “freedom of expression” has to be fiercely guarded.

But Kurt Westergaard, the artist who drew the anti-Mohammed cartoon in Denmark is a hero of the European Union. His "freedom of expression" is jealously guarded, and used as a pedagogic tool for hammering Muslims concerning the glories of modern Western human rights' standards.

When Muslims respond that the Danish cartoon was bigoted and racist, they were dismissed as backward peasants from Neanderthal societies who have yet to learn the rudiments of Enlightenment tolerance.

Meanwhile, revisionist expression concerning Talmudic Judaism or the alleged execution gas chambers of Auschwitz is another matter entirely. In the latter case, the "racist" pejorative is gleefully pinned on revisionists by the media and the courts, thereby acting as a solvent for weakening any claims to apply the western heritage of freedom of the press to revisionist writers or satirists.

Hence, Simon Sheppard, who received a lengthy prison sentence in part for distributing in England this writer's satirical comic book Tales of the Holohoax is described by all British media, from the snooty BBC to the proletarian "Sun" newspaper, as a "racist."

The unjust assignment of this pejorative is the impregnable wall that has been erected to isolate Mr. Sheppard's case from that of the anti-Muslim Danish cartoonists, and causes him to forfeit the civil liberties protections of Europe's supposed guardians of freedom against Islamic fundamentalism. The possibility that Europe might need to be guarded against the racist tyranny of fundamentalist Orthodox Judaism is policed out of consideration.

What precisely is there that is "racist" about the Tales of the Holohoax cartoons? The media do not scruple to attempt an analysis because they are under no pressure or obligation to do so. Satire is only a noble weapon when it is used against "demon Islam," while Judaism and Holocaustianity are sacred dogmas in Europe. Satirizing these sacred cows is a "disgusting hate crime."

Westergaard is portrayed as a defiant saint, while Mr. Sheppard and his partner in "criminal" satire, Stephen Whittle (they are known collectively as the "Heretical Two"), are less than zero in the eyes of the Western gatekeepers of morality and history - "race hate criminals" - in the purple prose of the BBC. The fact that these two have been stigmatized as "racist" is sufficient to render the stigma a reality, even when the facts bear witness to the contrary.

The "revisionist community," with some notable exceptions (Lady Michelle Renouf, Dr. Robert Faurisson, Willis Carto, Herman Otten) is reluctant to mention Tales of the Holohoax in connection with the plight of the "Heretical Two." The publication itself and the heretics who circulated it would now be a cause célébre if the current "revisionist community" had any of the public relations instincts of Ernst Zundel.

In the 2009 Christmas list of imprisoned revisionists and their jailhouse mailing addresses circulated around the Internet and published in certain revisionist newsletters, under the names Sheppard and Whittle the reason given for their incarceration was an oddly generic one: "sought asylum in the U.S." But the reason they were asylum seekers was noticeably absent. By this omission, reference to Tales of the Holohoax and its author were sent down the memory hole -- by revisionists themselves. 

No sustained analogy by revisionists concerning this writer or Mr. Sheppard, and Mr.Westergaard are not seen. And since it has been decided that Tales of the Holohoax shouldn't be mentioned or discussed by revisionists, no parallels are drawn between this writer's satirical gas chamber cartoons and the anti-Muslim ones in Denmark. A magnificent opportunity is thereby lost.

Culpability for this loss also rests with the Muslim and Arab media who have failed to compare the two sets of cartoons and the fate of the distributors.

No European has gone to jail for satirizing Islam or its prophet. On the contrary, the defiance of the Danish cartoonists is celebrated, rewarded and protected, while Sheppard rots in a British prison for distributing a satire that pokes fun at Talmudic tall tales recycled for modern consumption during and after World War II.

JERUSALEM — Chaim Amsellem was certainly not the first Parliament member to suggest that most ultra-Orthodox men should work rather than receive welfare subsidies for full-time Torah study. But when he did so last month, the nation took notice: He is a rabbi, ultra-Orthodox himself, whose outspokenness ignited a fresh, and fierce, debate about the rapid growth of the ultra-religious in Israel.

Full time dedication for studying the Torah without having to work but live on welfare subsidies even though one is physically able to work is nothing but being a parasite. When religion turns into business it becomes nothing but an empty shell.

“Torah is the most important thing in the world,” Rabbi Amsellem said in an interview. But now more than 60 percent of ultra-Orthodox men in Israel do not work, compared with 15 percent in the general population, and he argued that full-time, state-financed study should be reserved for great scholars destined to become rabbis or religious judges.

“Those who are not that way inclined,” he said, “should go out and earn a living.”
In reaction, he was ousted from his own ultra-Orthodox Shas Party, whose leaders vilified him with such venom that he was assigned a bodyguard. The party newspaper printed a special supplement describing Rabbi Amsellem as “Amalek,” the biblical embodiment of all evil. 

Of course..how dare he threaten the living of Yahweh's representatives on Earth; potential rabbis (Godly men), and defenders of the Torah. They indeed prefer to sit around and harass other Jews..

 

After watching the video clip..don't you ask yourself..does it matter if those people can really be considered as Jews or not? Ultra-Orthodox Jews of course have no religious tolerance. Men with beards as long as it could reach their pubic area to get entangled with their pubic hair; a sign, I suppose, of being pious.

   Now you know, after watching the video clip, how they do pass their time, standing around crying out like baboons, while others are working.

The intensity of the attacks from his own ranks appeared to underscore their own fears about a growing backlash to the privileges and subsidies long granted to the ultra-religious. The issue is not just the hundreds of millions of dollars doled out annually for seminaries and child allowances. Worry — and anger — is deepening about whether Israel can survive economically if it continues to encourage a culture of not working.

 Are they demonstrating because they feel the rug of parasitism is being pulled from under their feet. They must be scared, lazy bums.

Already, there are an increasing number of programs to prod the ultra-Orthodox to join the work force and to serve out the military duties required of all other Jewish Israelis. But critics say these are not enough: Rabbi Amsellem says what is needed is nothing less than “revolution.”

The ultra-Orthodox, known in Hebrew as haredim, or those in awe of God, make up 10 percent of Israel’s population of 7.5 million, but are increasing rapidly. In addition to the men, more than 50 percent of haredi women do not work, compared with 21 percent among mainstream Jewish women. About 75 percent of Arab women do not work.

 I do not think the Arab women are relevant here. Nor do I think 75% of them do not want to work because they do not want to, but because of the miserable life they are living thanks to the Israeli government.

But while the Arab fertility rate has been dropping, the haredim still marry young and favor large families with eight children or more. Enrollment in ultra-Orthodox primary schools has increased by more than 50 percent over the last decade.“We have a few years to get our act together,” warned Dan Ben-David, an economist and director of the Taub Center for Social Policy Studies in Israel, an independent research institute. “If not, there will be a point of no return.”

Several months ago the center issued a report that caused widespread alarm: If current trends continue, it said, 78 percent of primary school children in Israel by 2040 will be either ultra-Orthodox or Arab.

There are also signs of growing anger among mainstream Israelis: University students over the last weeks have blocked roads in protest of stipends amounting to $30 million a year for the eternal students of the kollels, which are seminaries for married men. They argued that they should receive similar benefits. The government agreed to limit the stipends, but only in five years.

Officials say that about 56 percent of ultra-Orthodox live below the poverty line. Most are dependent on welfare payments like income support, child allowances or married student stipends. 

God Gracious! This sounds like living in Heavens. No wonder they are demonstrating so strongly.

There are historical reasons most haredim in the modern state of Israel have chosen to remain in the seminaries, unlike their counterparts abroad, who combine Torah study with regular work. When the state was founded in 1948, David Ben-Gurion, the first prime minister, granted full-time yeshiva students state financing and exemption from army service to refill the ranks of Torah scholarship destroyed in the Holocaust. 

Well, their counterpart abroad combined the Torah study with work because, abroad, it  is more lucrative, specially when get involved in money laundering and human organ trafficking as rabbis did in the USA.

Then, there were 400 students, 18 and older, of draftable age. Today, there are about 60,000. To qualify for exemption, the students must be enrolled in full-time study and not do paid work. 

60,000...this is more than enough of an army to invade Iran and convert its population to Judaism.

The Israeli government and military, along with some private groups, have worked for ways to bring more ultra-Orthodox into the workforce and the army, but have done so slowly and with extreme caution not to offend ultra-religious sensibilities.

More than 2,500 haredim and other religious soldiers have served in a combat battalion set up in the late 1990s for ultra-Orthodox 18-year-olds.

 This is how friendly the Jews even to Americans whose tax money is being sent to thyem in the billions.

About 1,000 haredim have served in Shahar, a special army program set up in late 2007 for ultra-Orthodox married men 22 to 27 years old, in which they are trained as technical staff members for the air force, navy, intelligence and other branches of the military. Shahar soldiers are able to go home every night and receive a family income from the government. Their two-year army stint then eases their way into the work force.

Such programs are intended to allow haredim to serve in the army without abandoning their way of life. The military provides strictly kosher food, allows the haredi soldiers to stay in groups, largely segregated from female soldiers, and allots them time for religious study and prayer.

At a recent Hanukkah concert for Shahar soldiers, held in a cultural center near Tel Aviv, men filled the main hall of the auditorium; their wives and crying babies were in the balcony above. 

Chaim Dikman, 27, an officer who leads a haredi computer team in the air force and is one of 11 siblings, said he was the first in his family to serve. His own three children, he said, probably would not be welcome at some schools in the ultra-Orthodox West Bank settlement where he lives. But, he added, “They might not have accepted them anyway on grounds that I am too ‘modern,’ ” even though he has no television or Internet access at home.

Treading carefully, in coordination with the rabbis, JDC-Israel, the Israel branch of the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee, has pioneered programs like Shahar, provided professional training and set up employment centers for haredim.

Arnon Mantver, the group’s Israel director, said the haredim had gotten used to living frugally, often with help from charity. But then, he said, the expenses increase: “The kids grow up and marry and need housing.” 

Seeking a way out of poverty, about 10,000 haredim have passed through the group’s programs over the last decade, and a few thousand are engaged in adult secular studies at special campuses.

The government is discussing prodding haredim to perform a year of community service as ambulance drivers, firefighters and the like, in lieu of military service, after which they would be free to join the work force.

 Here they are again but wearing a hat of different color. I did not know they can do that!

“The government is putting a major emphasis on getting the haredim to go to work,” said Isaac Herzog, Israel’s minister of welfare and social services. “I see them as a major engine of the economy for the future, and we are seeing more and more change.”

" BAT YAM (IPS) - Emotions are running high in this working class town on the Mediterranean adjacent to Tel Aviv, the Israeli metropolis that has long been the symbol of liberal laissez-faire Israel. Principally, anti-Arab emotions: racism is on the march.

A number of small, yet vociferous, anti-Arab demonstrations have taken place here recently in the wake of a national uproar triggered by a religious ruling signed by 50 rabbis forbidding the renting of homes by Jewish Israelis to "non-Jews." The signing rabbis are from all around the country and from Jewish settlements in the occupied West Bank.

Their target is Israel's Palestinian Arab citizens who number 1.3 million, about a fifth of the Israeli population.

Bat Yam Mayor Shlomi Lahiani said that the latest demonstration by right-wing activists, that included members of the Knesset, Israel's parliament, and where there were calls to "keep Arabs out of our town," amounted to "inciting hate and racism."

"Arabs are equal citizens and must be treated as such," Lahiani told IPS. Racist actions would "not be tolerated," he declared.

Demonstrators have held up placards proclaiming "Jews, let's win -- daughters of Israel for sons of Israel."

Since the issuing of the original document earlier this month, scores more rabbis added their names to the edict -- despite an outpouring of public and media criticism.

In all, some 300 rabbis have now signed the document which warns that "it is forbidden in the Torah to sell a house or a field in the land of Israel to a Gentile." The document specifically calls for those who rent or sell property to non-Jews to be ostracized by the community.

"After someone sells or rents just one flat, the value of all the neighboring flats drops ... He who sells or rents to non-Jews causes his neighbors a big loss and his sin is great," it says. "Anyone who sells property to a non-Jew must be cut off!!"

The manifesto quotes extensively from Jewish writings, including the Bible. It cites Exodus 23:33: "Do not let them live in your land or they will cause you to sin against me, because the worship of their gods will certainly be a snare to you."

The rabbi signatories were swiftly rebuked by many public figures, including other rabbis and civil rights organizations as well as mainstream politicians, among them Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The speaker of the Knesset, Reuven Rivlin, described the rabbis' call "an embarrassment to the Jewish people, another nail in the coffin of Israeli democracy."

Others expressed concern lest racism against the Arab minority in Israel backfire against Jewish minorities around the world.

Noah Flug, head of the International Association of Holocaust Survivors, told IPS he was shocked by the content of the rabbis' letter, saying it recalled the Nazis banning of Jews from living alongside other Germans.

"How can we not remember how the Nazis threw Jews out of their apartments in order to create ghettos, how they wrote on benches 'No Jews allowed,' and how, of course, it was prohibited to sell or rent property to Jews. Who would have believed that people would now be calling for this to happen in our country?"

The anti-Arab mood in Bat Yam, and the attempts to contain it, are a reflection of similar situations that have arisen recently in a number of other Israeli towns, starting from the holy Jewish city Safed in Galilee: the local rabbi was the first to issue a call on Jewish residents of the town to "keep Arabs out."

For now, official Israel has managed to keep a lid on a potentially explosive situation.

But many of the rabbis are unrepentant. "Racism originated in the Torah," Rabbi Yosef Scheinen, who heads a religious seminary in Ashdod, a port town south of here, told Israel Radio. "The Land of Israel belongs to the people of Israel. This is what the Holy One, Blessed Be He, intended."

Despite the widespread condemnation, experts au fait with the mood among some religious and hard nationalist circles believe there is widespread support for the views as voiced by the rabbis in their original document.

Menachem Friedman of Bar-Ilan University said, "They are expressing fears of the whole population, but particularly the poorer sectors. The state itself often adopts discriminatory positions towards the Arab minority and that contributes to deep fears raised by fundamentalist Islam, creating a kind of ghetto mentality among many Jewish Israelis, even though they are the majority in this country." "

JERUSALEM: Israel's new Ashkenazi chief rabbi is facing growing calls to step down amid allegations of misconduct. The allegations center on sexual harassment charges against Yona Metzger, as well as charges that he engaged in fraud and is not qualified for the post. Aides to Metzger have rejected the allegations as a smear campaign fueled by political rivals. Metzger and his Sephardi counterpart, Rabbi Shlomo Amar, were elected as Israel's chief rabbis April 14 by a 150-member public committee. Since then, however, opposition to Metzger has grown. In the latest development, a Tel Aviv accountant filed a petition Monday in the High Court of Justice challenging Metzger's appointment. It will be heard by a three-judge panel.

She even caught him on audio tape threatening to prance around their Bronxhome naked in front of her 17-year-old daughter. “You’ve got to move,” Goor says, according to an audio tape reviewed by The Post. “This is my house . . . I’m allowed to walk around nude in my house. So you better tell [her daughter] Mary,” Goor told Pizzo.“I’m allowed to walk round this house . . . and I’m going to.”. So Rabbi Shamuel Elliyahu wants to keep the Jewish community pure and clean of the "filthy" Arabs, or does he wants to keep the Jewish virgins, if any, be still virgins so that he can deflowers them himself later on.

Do I blame those Rabbis? They believe what they are doing is serving God as what they are doing is in accordance to what is stated in the Torah and the Talmud. But why do not they have a second thought?


They won't because religion has always been in their mind sort of business. They are graduate of some Jewish theological school and know nothing else for winning bread and butter.
